How to get free SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt ?

Modified on Sat, 25 May at 6:39 PM

JYou can issue a completely legal, free SSL certificate. It is issued for 90 days and is renewed automatically.

The process of issuing a certificate consists of several simple steps:

  1. In the Domain Management menu, select a domain and enable SSL for it.

  2. Log in to DirectAdmin, then go to "SSL Certificates"

  3. Select ACME Provider and Let's Encrypt

  • Select the domains for which you want to issue certificates

  • Click Save

If you have a domain tied to external mail, do not choose mail subdomains.

The SSL certificate issuance process can take up to a minute. If successful, you will receive a message that the certificate and key have been saved.

Go back to the "SSL Certificates" section. Let's make sure that the certificate data is really filled in.

Try to log in to your domain as https://вашдомен. You will see a secure connection. In our example it is https://go-cloud.ru. Follow the link, examine the certificate.

If you have already requested a certificate and you see the error:

Size of certificate response is smaller than 500 characters, it means something went wrong. Printing response... "detail": "Error creating new cert :: Too many certificates already issued for exact set of domains: go-cloud.ru,www.go-cloud.ru".

This means that you have exhausted the limit of certificate requests and the next request is possible in at least a week.

Let's Encrypt certificates are recommended to be reissued not more often than once every 90 days (about 3 months).
